MAKE NOISE

Two free VST/AU plugins in one package to deliver LOFI noise-making and live-vibe grit to your tracks.

AMP

USE AMP to add  some nasty hum into your track.

Make it loud or quiet, pan it, pitch-shift it (record changes with the pitch-bend on your midi keyboard) filter it (cut) or just kill it!

Just hit any note on your keyboard to record into your DAW. It’s monophonic, single-pitch and NOT velocity sensitive to enable a good, uniform low hum that  doesn’t break when it loops. You can record short bursts (it’s great at the start of a track to suggest a live stage recording) or just hold it down for the whole track. Or just draw it in…

TAPE

USE TAPE to add some background tape noise into your track.

Make it loud or quiet, pan it, filter it (cut) or just kill it!

Just hit any note on your keyboard to record into your DAW. It’s monophonic, single-pitch and NOT velocity sensitive to enable a good, uniform noise floor that doesn’t break when it loops. You can record short bursts or just hold it down for the whole track. Or just draw it in… This tape noise really adds an old flavour to your sound.

12 MINUTES VST/AU

Feed your inner sound designer with this set of twelve one-minute atmospheric pieces of musical abstraction by Flintpope. Twelve Minutes was originally created as a set of sound designs for Native Instruments sample download site sounds.com. Flintpope put them all (yes, twelve one-minute soundscapes) into one free rompler to plug-in to your DAW as a VST or Audio Unit.

Why not experiment with these audio backdrops to make some unusual spaces between the beats, or maybe just layer them into quirky pads for filmic effect?

PLAYBACK

This VST/AU is polyphonic. A short Release is pre-set to stop chaos but can be increased to create chaos if required. Playing a new note re-triggers the chosen sample from the start. To stop all sound if chaos is too chaotic just hit the Kill button.

Presets can be changed on the fly for interesting overdubs, and experimenting with the Release on the fly (and any of the controls e.g. Verb)) can create interesting and responsive textures. HOWEVER, see LIMITATIONS below for what changes actually get recorded in your DAW. This is a get it onto tape kind of instrument so get your cassette or external recorder fired up and improvise.

CONTROLS.

Release, Filter C/O, Reverb, Pan and Pitch Shift. Gain, LFO Amount and Rate. Preset Selector (12 options). Kill (stop all notes).

NOTE: LFO Waveform is set to Square and destination is set to Pan. The other options are, well, stupid. And they clutter up the GUI.

This VST/AU responds to pitchbend from a midi/usb keyboard and the mod wheel controls LFO Amount, over-riding the on-screen dial.

LIMITATIONS

This box is made with Maizesoft which allows assignable sliders within your DAW for ADSR and Filter C/O but nothing else. This is not a Flintpope issue so don’t get in touch thanks! The Release and CUT settings are also somewhat insensitive and only make a useful difference near the zero end of the dial (extreme left).

New FREE VST/AU re-creates old sixties string/flute sound

TAPESTRINGFLUTE VST/AU

Another iteration of those old Mellotron samples that weave around the internet but hey, some of them are in one place in one battered old silver box here. And it’s all free, no strings attached, if you’ll pardon the pun.

Using five samples from C1 to C5 of the flutey/stringy sound so beloved of those old sixties and seventies records we’ve looped them quite badly and if you listen closely you can hear the keyboard splits; all in the name of trying to capture that old clunky LOFI beauty of the original tapes used in the Mellotrons of yesteryear.

This box works even works on Windows.

Technical things about the dials.

The envelope Release (R) is kind of abrupt, ditto the Filter Cut Off (CUT). Both parameters plus the hidden Attack, Decay and Sustain are assignable to controls within your DAW. Don’t expect much joy from Attack, Decay and Sustain though. It’s all very low tech.

ROOM is the reverb dial and is quite powerful. PITCH and L/R are self explanatory. MASTER is just a swanky word for Volume.

LFO dials: Amount and Rate are obvious. LFO Wave can be assigned to Triangle, Saw, Sine, Square or Exponent. LFO Dest(ination) is either None, Pitch, Expression or Pan. Unfortunately LFO rate can’t be synced to an outside clock so play it by ear. As we said, it’s all very low tech. Fun though.

SOUNDSCAPER VST/AU

is a polyphonic rompler with 12 samples taken from Flintpope’s Reaktor Soundscaper, to give you a flavour of the latter instrument. Soundscaper is aimed at sound-designers and in the Reaktor version there are 254 samples, 96 presets and a staggering 16000 possible combinations of sounds.

Read more about Reaktor Soundscaper here

Meanwhile, Soundscaper VST/AU boasts a representative selection of sounds from the three banks “Synthwaves”, “Soundscapes” and “Percussives” in the Reaktor version and a selection of controls.

CONTROLS

Attack, Release, LFO Amount, LFO Waveform (Triangle,Saw, Square, Exponent), LFO Rate, LFO Destination (None, Pitch, Expression, Pan), Preset Select, Cut, Room (reverb), Pitch, L/R balance and Master.
